Pool Maintenance and Renovations
Our pool was constructed fifty years ago when Fort Johnson Estates was a new neighborhood. The time has come for major renovations and we estimate that $100,000 or more would be required to bring the facility back to new condition. For example, we've rewired and replaced the flood lights on the the 2 light towers, renovated the bathhouse by replacing the roof, refinishing the floors, and painting the interior, upgraded the pool filtration system, increased return flow to the pool by adding an additional water line that feeds the deep end, resurfaced the plaster that lines the entire pool, and this winter we are having the main drains reconstructed to eliminate leaks.
The current pool membership fees are based on recovering depreciation costs on a realistic schedule. We don't expect to recover depreciation immediately, but over a period of years. Our goal is to maintain the pool in the best possible condition at the minimum cost to members. We also recognize that a well maintained neighborhood pool is an asset to every property owner in Fort Johnson Estates.
SCDHEC Public Swimming Pools
Our Pool Rules are a greatly reduced version of the SCDHEC regulations for public swimming pools. Our licensed pool operator has a very good working knowledge of this document with full power to enforce it. Regulation 61-51 can be referenced at the following link...
The FJE Swimming Pool is available during the summer for pool parties. Please email David and Stacey Daffin (email@example.com) to arrange your event. The pool party agreement can be downloaded at the link below...
The FJE Pool is maintained with the effort and hard work of volunteers. There is a volunteer Pool Committee (Members listed below) which meets monthly to discuss maintenance and operation of the pool during the summer swim season and in the off season. The 2018 swim season will be the first year that the pool will be under the care of a paid licensed operator. We will continue to rely though on volunteers to clean the bathhouses, empty waste receptacles, and close the pool each evening. There will also be weekly cleaning of deck furniture and the tiles around the perimeter of the pool.
The Ft. Johnson Estates Pool Corporation was dissolved prior to the 2015 Annual Meeting and is now a committee of the Civic Club. The following former board members have agreed to remain as committee members...
